Who We Are
The United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Minority Coalition is a Coalition that works to ensure equal representation and opportunity within the UFCW union. It is committed to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace by empowering underrepresented groups, such as workers of color and marginalized communities.
The coalition works towards addressing issues of inequality in labor practices, advocating for fair treatment, and fostering leadership opportunities for minority members within the union. By focusing on education, awareness, and outreach, the UFCW Minority Coalition strives to improve conditions for workers across various sectors, such as retail, food processing, healthcare, and others.
In summary, the UFCW Minority Coalition is a dedicated group within the union that promotes social justice, equality, and the active involvement of minorities in leadership roles, aiming to create a more inclusive labor movement.
Annual Conference & Ball
On Saturday, November 16, 2024, UFCW leaders and members along with their family and friends will come together to celebrate the 26th Anniversary of the UFCW Minority Coalition Annual Ball. You are cordially invited to take part in this very special event. Following last year’s successful 50th Anniversary Celebration, we felt it fitting to continue our conference as an in- person event. The conference will take place at the Hilton Washington D.C. Capitol Hill, as we award outstanding individuals for their exceptional service and raise funds to promote Sickle Cell disease education and research.
This year, we also come together to remember and honor the life of Don Cash Sr., a leader, mentor, and advocate, who made an extraordinary impact on our community. Don’s tireless efforts, especially through his work with Faces of Our Children, Inc., have left a lasting legacy that we will celebrate during this year’s conference. We invite you to join us in reflecting on his contributions and discussing how we can continue his initiatives to inspire future leadership. The Ball will be the culminating event of a weekend dedicated to education, inspiration, and planning. The weekend will begin with an Executive Board meeting on Friday, November 15th, followed by a day-long Education Conference. We are excited to feature dynamic labor and community speakers from the AFL-CIO, UFCW, and other affiliates, as well as the NAACP.
In a world where health challenges are becoming increasingly complex, the focus on prevention has never been more crucial. This conference will bring together leading experts in healthcare, wellness, and public health to explore how preventative measures can significantly improve our quality of life and reduce the burden on healthcare systems. We believe that taking control of your health starts with informed decisions and proactive steps.
Appropriately, Taking Control of your Health: The Importance of Preventative Care is the theme for our 2024 Conference. This year’s conference will bring together healthcare professionals and community leaders to explore how proactive health measures can improve lives. Building on the success of our recent “Bias in Healthcare” webinar, we will host a panel of experts to discuss the importance of preventative care in the Black community, addressing health disparities rooted in social and healthcare system inequalities. Our focus is to equip individuals with the tools and knowledge necessary to lead healthier lives through early detection, regular screenings, and healthy lifestyle choices.
Our Annual Ball, the main fundraising event for the Coalition’s charity, Faces of Our Children (a 501(c) non-profit organization), will take place on November 16th. This year, we are honored to dedicate the
event to the memory of Don Cash Sr., whose recent passing has deeply impacted our organization. His tireless advocacy and leadership in the fight against Sickle Cell disease will forever inspire us. Through this dedication, we will continue Don’s legacy by increasing public awareness, supporting families affected by the disease, and contributing to ongoing efforts to find a cure. Much of our success in battling this disease is rooted in our commitment to educating the public and raising awareness about the devastating effects of Sickle Cell within our communities.
We could not achieve these milestones without your generous financial support. As we honor Don’s
memory and work, the Coalition extends its deepest gratitude and respectfully asks for your continued
assistance to ensure the success of this crucial mission.
Enclosed, you will find details on how to register, accommodations, and sponsorship information,
